Description
A Small carved wooden Idol with a deep well handled surface patina and overall abstract form. This Idol was used to teach the negative effects of anti social behavior among the Lega peoples. This statue represents a man who caused trouble by calling together people whom he did not know well for a beer party. Though Kakulu ku Mpito is not personally responsible for ritual pollution or social discord, sculptures of this type are nevertheless often carved without arms. The lack of formal balance is augmented by an extremely large head. The figure is carved wood and measures 7 inches tall. Ex Edward Robertson collection, Washington DC.
