Description

1868 joint CDV of Grant and Colfax with a portrait of Washington at top center and mirror American eagles above portrait busts of the two candidates with a United States shield, two flags and the ax and bound rods symbol of the Republic between them. The lower portion is captioned Presidential Campaign of 1868 and Grant's famous message of 1864 that there would be no turning back: "we intend to fight it out on this line if it takes all summer." Housed in a very nice, period, cross-stick frame with gilt inner border and white porcelain studs.
