This is a wonderful carved wooden mask featuring the original pigments and paint, this mask dates to the early 20th century 1900-1930. The figure on top is well carved with raised scars and charming pose on seat. Likely represents an important figure in the village. The Gelede spectacle is a yearly dance that is meant to amuse, educate and inspire worship among the tribe. Yoruba peoples, Nigeria, Africa. The mask measures 21 x 11 inches.
