Condition
The canvas has not been lined, however there is a line strip lining along all four edges under the stretcher. There are 7 patch repairs to the canvas verso, the largest 22cm x 19cm, see an image of reverse.
On close inspection, there is paint separation mainly in the darkest pigments and some very faint craquelure to the body of the tiger.
There is rubbing to the framed edges with some associated paint loss that has been visibly retouched.
There are several scratches and repairs in the canvas with retouched paint that correlate to the aforementioned patch repairs, including the repair corresponding to the largest patch which is faintly visible in the centre of the work recto.
Stretcher marks are visible down the centre of the canvas with some associated craquelure and further faint stretcher marks along the edges.
There is a spot of loss on the body of the snake centre right.
Surface dirt.
UV light reveals retouching to the aforementioned repairs including a large area to the tiger. Some retouching to the right edge, and a few small patches elsewhere.
