JOHN OPIE (BRITISH, 1761–1807) OIL ON CANVAS, H 49.5" W 39.5" PORTRAIT OF CHARLES JAMES FOX BY RAEBURN Depicting the Portrait of the Rt. Hon. Charles James Fox, in a dark coat and white vest, resting his left hand on a table, with a red curtain in the background. Accompanied by book about Charles James Fox by John Drinkwater (Copyright 1928) and paperwork from Christie's, King Street debating the original auction description 'By Raeburn' to indicate that this was a painted copy by one of Sir Henry Raeburn's followers John Opie. The original entry in the Christie's catalogue from the 30th of April 1954 is included in this paperwork. Frame H 56" W 39.5". Provenance: a Detroit, MI private collection.
Condition
Skillful cleaning was performed in 1992 by Kenneth Katz from the International Institute for Conservation.
