Item Details
Description
Northwestern Europe, England, ca. 17th to 18th century CE. A fine collection of pewter dishes; 2 chargers, 2 platters, and 4 plates - a total of 8 items! Included is a plain rim plate with a Stynt Duncombe (Bewdley 1745-1767) mark on the verso: an ox or sheep leg in a shield. The rim has the original owner's initials: "WIS." A charger is also stamped with Duncombe marks and owner initials on the rim, "HI." The other circular charger is stamped on the reverse "Alex Coulter" (Edinburgh 1708-1732) and engraved with the owner's initials. The ovoid platter is by George Grenfell (Greenfall) (London 1757-1784). The largest circular platter has faint marks on the verso and rim, and the owner's initials. The two other plates have scalloped rims and stamped on the verso with British marks. Size of dining plate: 8.8" Diameter (22.4 cm); largest platter: 20.125" Diameter (51.1 cm)

Condition
Maker marks are soft but somewhat legible on most. The largest platter has marks but are not legible. Surface wear, indentations, bending of forms, and scratches as expected with age and use. Great variety of makers and types.
