Early War Portrait of Two Soldiers [Civil War]

Item Details

Description

Clear and crisp sixth plate ambrotype of two young men, both of whom seem to be showing off their military headgear for the camera. The subject on the left is in uniform; his Union frock is unbuttoned and he holds a shako. His friend seems to have his arm around him, and displays a forage cap. This image has the look and feel of a very early wartime image, and evokes a spirit of “new recruits.” Their identities are thus far unknown. Condition is near mint; image is housed in a full leatherette case. A wonderful Civil War photo.
