1861 - 1866 GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC VETERAN PIN MEDAL. The back of the medal reads "PAT. MAY 4, 1886. JUNE 22, 1886". Serial number P18357. The Grand Army of the Republic was a fraternal organization composed of veterans of the Union Army, Union Navy, and the Marines who served in the American Civil War. It was founded in 1866 in Springfield, Illinois, and grew to include hundreds of "posts" across the nation. Each Grand Army badge is made of metal from cannon taken from the enemy in actual battle on some of the decisive fields of the war. 3 3/8" Long. This piece has some patina. We opted to leave it as it is.
