Item Details
Description
Southeast Asia, Thailand, Haripunjaya, ca. 12th century CE. This is a fine example of a terracotta vessel with a high neck globular body known as a Nam ton. The vessel resembles an ewer, the body rests on a flat foot, the rounded shoulders are decorated with a cross hatched incised pattern, and the neck has narrow bands of black striations encircling the from the neck base to rim. The style is thought to be influenced by the Indian Pala Dynasty and used for storing water or other liquids. An orange slip over the clay that is baked at a high heat creates the red tone throughout, and after firing the pieces would often be decorated with white pigments. Size: 4.5" Diameter x 9" H (11.4 cm x 22.9 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report is available for $50 to the buyer. Please contact us to request.
