Description
Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Manabi, Bahia culture, ca. 500 BCE to 500 CE. A hollow-molded pottery female figure shown seated with legs crossed beneath her upright body. She displays annular finery along her left shoulder and breast as well as corded motifs along her neck and right shoulder, and she dons plug-form earspools in each ear lobe. Her expressive countenance exhibits almond-shaped eyes, a plug-adorned nose, a grinning mouth with incised teeth, and a furrowed brow, all beneath a semicircular headdress. Decorated with light orange slip, this is a wonderful example of figural artistry from ancient Ecuador! Size: 4.25" W x 8.25" H (10.8 cm x 21 cm)
