For your consideration is an antique Chinese enameled narcissus bulb planter or jardiniere. Sometimes referred to simply as 'bulb bowls' these vessels are important in Chinese culture as the flower they support symbolizes wealth, prosperity and renewal. The rectangular planter is decorated with beautiful turquoise, cobalt and aubergine enamels on every side. The interior of the bowl is not enameled and shows years of appropriate use in a beautifully patinated metal. The underside of the planter is also enameled in turquoise.

Provenance: From the private collection of a retired Army Major General in San Antonio, Texas.

Item is in excellent condition with no damage, missing pieces, heavy wear or repair. These enamels are typically naive or crude in quality and the firing process sometimes leaves areas where enamel did not adhere or bubbled...these firing 'defect' are not considered damage and serve as a means of authentication and dating these wares. Metal oxidation noted but vessel has no instability, holes or distracting wear. Please see all images for more information on condition.
