Native American, United States, Archaic to Woodland period, ca. 1000 BCE to 1000 CE. A large collection of 115 stone projectile points and tools, all hand flaked from chert, obsidian, and quartzite presenting a nice variety of hues and forms. Included are many identifiable types and diverging forms of lanceolate and triangle with expanding, straight, and contracting stems, as well as excurvate or straight blades. Most appear to be full formed, many with necks, notches, and fins; a few are perhaps pre-formed but have clearly been worked at one time. Aside from projectile points are several drill or awl bits with chiseled slender tips. A diverse gathering that demonstrates projectile typology from across North America! Age and use expected chips and wear, with larger losses to the blades, fins, and necks on several in each case. Overall great preservation to forms and large variety of types. A few old inventory labels on the surfaces of several. All are displayed in 4 modern Riker cases.
