Ancient Near East, Holy Land, Judea, Deir Samit, Late Bronze Age, ca. 1500 to 1250 BCE. A compact offering jar of a squat form that is hand-carved from creamy honey-yellow alabaster which illuminates when placed near a light source. The vessel presents with a planar base, swollen walls that taper for form the broad neck, and a discoid rim surrounding the mouth to the shallow basin. Offering vessels like this would be filled with foodstuffs, oils, or other oblations to be left at a temple for a deity. Size: 4.125" W x 1.875" H (10.5 cm x 4.8 cm)

Repair to area of rim and body, with very light adhesive residue along break lines. Chips and abrasions to base, body, and rim, with encrustations across interior and exterior, and nicks to basin surfaces. Nice earthen deposits throughout. Old inventory labels beneath base.
