**First Time At Auction**
Egypt, Coptic culture, ca. 1st to 5th century CE. A textile fragment that is perhaps woven from natural cotton fibers that was part of a tunic or everyday vestment at one time. The beige-hued panel displays a vertical register containing 4 full and 3 partial dancers, each with their left legs extended and right arms raised in a festive pose. The lowest partial figure is surrounded by an ovoid frame, and the entire figural column is enclosed within a pair of nubbin-lined bars. Size (textile fragment): 8.4" W x 8.25" H (21.3 cm x 21 cm); (frame): 13.375" W x 10.4" H (34 cm x 26.4 cm)

Condition
Textile fragment has not been examined outside of display frame. Textile is a fragment of a larger composition. Losses to several interior and peripheral areas, with staining and fading to original pigment. Thread fibers have come off within the frame. Minor fissures to some interior areas of frame's frontal acrylic panel.
