Description
1854 Abigail Mott Persons of Color American SLAVERY Racism INDIANS Provenance

Abigail Mott was a 19th-century American Quaker best-known for her treatise on the abolition of slavery in America. She and her husband began supporting anti-slavery activists in the 1820s and 30s. Her time spent with anti-slavers and African American people inspired her book “Biographical Sketches of Persons of Colour”, a novel that tells stories of the lives of various people she encountered. The book was published to describe the evils and horrors of slavery and to bring good light to African American people.

This 1854 edition includes an interesting poem entitled Burial of the Indian Girl.
