1774 History of QUAKERS Willem Sewel Turkish Pirates DIXON Family New Jersey NC
Willem Sewel was a 17th-century Dutch Quaker who is most-known for his historical perspective on the Quakers. This work was a collection of essays and reports over the course of 25 years that was finally published in 1717. This book gives Sewels first-hand accounts with important Quaker leaders including such as William Penn and George Fox. Other curious topics include descriptions of Turks and Algerian pirates, naval excursions of Thomas Lurting, and William Penns establishment of Pennsylvania.
This 1774 edition was printed in New Jersey and translated by Sewel from his own 1717 Dutch edition.

Likely the descendants of Simon A. Dixon (1728–1781), the founder and prominent member of the Quaker community of Snow Camp, North Carolina. He was also one of the founding members of the Cane Creek Friends Meeting, the first Quaker community in the Piedmont region of North Carolina. In 1781, his home and mill were briefly seized by General Charles Cornwallis as temporary quarters in the days following the Battle of Guilford Courthouse.
