Description: James Ficklen goes by Herc, short for Hercules, his childhood nickname. He drew comics for the Dallas newspaper for a whopping 48 years. This particular piece is a single panel done in pencil, blue ink, black ink and highlighted with white gouache that is undated.

Condition:Browning and foxing on the front and back and what appears to be two ink splotches. Along with very mild small creases on the back.

Provenance:The Prestigious Charles L Howard collection of comic illustration and political cartoon illustrator drawings and original art. Mr. Howard was a railway executive whose life collecting passion was assembling an example from nearly every illustrator at nearly every newspaper beginning WWI onwards to circa WWII. Many of the cartoons dealt with the railroad, trains and railway issues and many U.S. presidents appear in the drawings, other artworks include popular culture themes such as the depression, pin-ups, baseball, and soldiers at war.
