November 17, 1814-Dated War or 1812, This Official 24-page Imprint is Signed at the conclusion in printed text by "James Monroe" as Secretary of State, published for the U.S. House of Representatives, Reports of damages to official books and papers during the British "Consequence of the Incursion of the Enemy on The 24th of August Last", (the Burning of Washington), Very Fine.
1814-Dated Important official Government Imprint, Printed by A. & G. Way, Printers, of Washington by order of the House of Representatives, dated November 17, 1814. It measures 5" x 8.5" containing a historic report and accounting of damages done to official books and papers by the fires set by the British Enemy during their Burning of Washington. The various reports are directed to the Speaker of the House of Representatives (Langdon Cheves, at the time) and are from the Departments of State, Treasury, War, and the Navy and the General Post-Office. Imprint is disbound yet complete, having some light tone, yet sharply printed and intact. Easily readable, this War of 1812 history includes the names of different officials and the dates they responded to the government's request of listed damages done within their departments. Well known is James Monroe, here reporting in his capacity as Secretary of War. Other names include Thomas Tucker, the longest-tenured Treasurer of the United States, and Alexander James Dallas, Secretary of Treasury and champion of the creation of the Second Bank of the United States.
