Description
Signed large format oil on plywood panel painting by Handel Lamp decorator and noted Meriden, Connecticut artist, Frederick Matzow (1861 - 1938). Landscape painting of Hubbard Park with a road and a reservoir, on the path leading up to Castle Craig. This is one of Matzow's favorite locations, as he painted this scene on multiple occasions. Unusual, however, is the large size and plywood panel Matzow chose for this particular piece. 28" tall by 59" across, it is surely one of Matzow's most monumental works. Reportedly from a Meriden Area Hotel, possibly the Winthrop. Some pin holes / nail holes in panel, as well as minor areas of chipping. Signed in lower right corner. Unframed. Keywords: America, American, Americana, decor, decoration, fancy, art, paint, painter
