Description
A Chinese Bronze Alloy Tripod Ritual Food Vessel and Cover. The archaic vessel cast with a pair of vertical loop handles, supported on three tapered legs, the body and cover decorated with simple bow string bands, the shallow domed cover cast with three evenly spaced triangle form handles. Possibly Warring States Period (475-221 BCE). {Height 10 1/2 inches (26.6 cm)}. Note: Ding (cauldrons) were used for cooking, storage, and ritual offerings. They are one of the most important vessels seen in Chinese ritual bronzes. The number of dings a noble owned indicated his rank.
