**Originally Listed At $450**

Oceania, Melanesia, Trobriand Islands, Massim peoples, ca. 19th century CE. A finely-preserved bowl of a wide form, hand-carved from dense wood of an espresso-brown hue. The hemispherical vessel has a round but stable base, a shallow basin, and a flat rim adorned with incised zigzag motifs. The exterior of the bowl boasts a pair of raised diamonds filled with dense linear motifs, and a petite suspension hole is situated near the outer-most edge of the rim. Fabulous patina envelops this wonderful example from the Massim! Size: 11.9" W x 3" H (30.2 cm x 7.6 cm).

Minor abrasions to rim, basin, and base, with light encrustations, minor softening to some incised details, and one stable hairline fissure stemming from suspension hole, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits and great patina throughout. Old inventory label within basin.
