**First Time At Auction**
Northern Europe, Latvia, Viking / Norse culture, ca. 9th to 12th century CE. A captivating amulet of a warrior figure on horseback, cast in leaded bronze and stylistically presented on one side with incised details and a flat verso. The warrior holds an axe in one hand and his horse's mane or reins in the other. The surface is enveloped in a dark patina. Perhaps the figure was strung as a pendant or as a protective amulet to bury with the deceased. Size: 1.5" L x 1.35" W (3.8 cm x 3.4 cm)
Provenance: private Carmichael, California, USA collection, acquired in the 1990s
