Description
**First Time At Auction**
Greece, late Hellenistic to early Roman Imperial Period, ca. 1st century BCE to 1st century CE. A lovely, mold-made pottery face fragment presenting a plump, Roman-style visage with generously lidded eyes beneath arched brows, a flat nose, full cheeks, and a petite mouth held slightly parted. A thick coiffure caps the head of this ancient figure, while liberal remains of white and gray pigments adorn its surface. Size: 2.1" W x 3" H (5.3 cm x 7.6 cm)
Provenance: private Toronto, Ontario, Canada collection, by descent, acquired in Egypt in 1894 to 1896

Condition
Fragment of a larger piece. Repaired from a few large pieces with restoration over break lines. Perforation just above brow. Loss to nose. Expected abrasions and softening of detail, commensurate with age. Otherwise, nice with liberal remains of pigment.
