Description
**First Time At Auction**
Magna Graecia, South Italic Colonies, ca. 340 to 325 BCE. An elegant pottery dipper or kyathos presenting thick walls that rise to a gently flared rim over a deep basin, all sitting upon a pedestal base and enveloped in a lustrous black glaze. A lovely handle projects outward from one side of the rim. Though examples like this are referred to as dippers, they were more likely used as a drinking cups; similar to a skyphos, but minus the one handle. Note the silvery iridescence that illuminates the interior basin of this graceful dish! Size: 4.3" in diameter x 1.8" H (10.9 cm x 4.6 cm)
Provenance: private C.Q. collection, Lexington, Virginia, USA, acquired October 30, 2013; ex-Artemis Gallery, Louisville, Colorado, USA; ex-private Texas, USA collection, acquired before 2010

Collection numbers inscribed on interior. Chip to rim. Expected surface wear commensurate with age. Otherwise, intact and excellent with lovely iridescence.
