Description
**First Time At Auction**

Ancient Egypt, Second Intermediate Period to New Kingdom, 14th to 20th Dynasty, ca. 1725 to 1077 BCE. A hand-carved steatite scarab pendant of ovoid form with a topside featuring a folded wing carapace, legs tucked beneath the body, and a narrow head with protruding eyes and a frilled clypeus. Inscribed beneath the insect is a series of seated, right-facing deities. The central figure wears the Pschent crown of Upper and Lower Egypt and holds an ankh. Behind the center figure is the goddess Hathor with her bull horns beneath a sun disc, and in front of the center figure is a partial rendering of the goddess Maat wearing her signature feather of truth atop her head. Size: 0.97" L x 0.7" W (2.5 cm x 1.8 cm)

Provenance: ex-estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, acquired before 2000

Chips to legs and underside along left side of scarab, with softening to some finer details, light encrustations, and minor abrasions. Nice preservation to remaining iconography inscribed along underside.
