Thompson IV (blindstamp to end paper). 4 volumes. Publisher's one-quarter sheep with maroon morocco boards and spine labels gilt by E.D. Chassell (volumes I-III); publisher's brown cloth with maroon morocco spine labels gilt by E.D. Chassell (volume IV). Provenance: George E. Thompson IV (blindstamp). -- ABERNATHY, Alonzo, editor. Dedication of Monuments Erected by the State of Iowa. Des Moines: Emory H. English, 1908. Half morocco gilt with tan cloth boards by E.D. Chassell. Provenance: George E. Thompson IV (blindstamp). -- BYERS, Samuel Hawkins Marshall (1838-1933). Iowa in War Times. Des Moines: W.D. Condit & Co., 1888. Illustrated dark brown morocco gilt, smooth spine gilt. INSCRIBED BY BYERS, a veteran who enlisted as a corporal on 24 June 1861, mustering into Co. B of the 5th Iowa Infantry on 15 July 1861. He was promoted to quartermaster sergeant exactly a year later and again to 1st lieutenant on 23 April 1863. He was captured and became a POW at Missionary Ridge, TN on 25 November 1863. He escaped captivity after 15 months imprisonment and was discharged on 19 March 1865 before serving on the staff of Major General William T. Sherman. -- WRIGHT, Henry H.
