Item Details
Description
[CIVIL WAR]. A group of 6 CDVs of unidentified Navy officers, comprising:

Three-quarter standing portrait of a probable lieutenant commander (1862) wearing dress epaulettes instead of shoulder straps. N.p.: N.p., n.d. Misidentified on verso as "Gen Thomas" -- Full-length portrait of Brown Water Navy ensign wearing a plain frock coat with wreath only on cap. Vicksburg, MS: Joslyn, Smith & Co., n.d. -- Full-length portrait of a casual standing boatswain or warrant officer (1864) in straw sennit hat cradling sword. He wears white warm weather trousers. New Orleans, LA: Washburn, n.d. Imprint to verso. --  A crisp view of an intermediate-ranking officer showing four narrow stripes on the cuffs. Four stripes indicate a captain under the 1866 regulations although the requisite star is missing on the cuffs of this pensive-looking officer. Cairo, IL: Parker's City Gallery. Imprint to verso with canceled green 3-cent revenue stamp. Period ink inscription on verso only partially readable, a name perhaps   followed by "...of U.S.N." --  Full-length portrait of a junior officer, probably an ensign (1862 Regulations), posed menacingly with sword out of scabbard against an elaborate painted backdrop. St. Louis, MO: T. Harry Hughes, n.d. Imprint to verso. --  Early three-quarter portrait of a master (1852 Regulations) indicated by the plain shoulder straps and intersecting three buttons (horizontal and vertical) on the cuffs. His undress cap is cradled underneath his arm. Philipsburg, PA: J. Haines, n.d. Imprint of the landlocked photographer to verso. -- Together, 6 albumen CDVs on cardstock mounts. Conditon generally  G+. with moderate wear, one with clipped corners. The outsized probable lieutenant commander showing heavier mount wear and rounded corners.
