Notes/Literature: This important period copy of a lost Watteau figure study is included in "Antoine Watteau, 1684-1721: Catalogue raisonne des dessins Vol. II", Pierre Rosenberg and Louis-Antoine Prat, p. 630, Fig. 382a", for the faithfulness of its execution, and as the only extant example showing a transition in Watteau's technique. It is identified as part of the prestigious Stralem Collection.
