Fine British Papier Mache Tray circa 1830 with an oil painting to center of Congreave's Monument on the Grounds of the Stowe School, surrounded by a black border with the remains of a heavily scrolled gilt design; the reverse in black with the title in gray. Width 26 inches (66 cm.) NOTE: Circa 1737 perhaps by Kent. Small stone obelisk with a trophy of comic masks and surmounted by a monkey supposed to be holding a mirror. Erected by Lord Cobham as a memorial to his friend Congreve, the playwright. Stands on a small island in the Octagon Lake.

Age related wear to gold designs and a few small flakes to oil painted design to top surface; both front and back with age related craquelure.
