In 4to, mm. 25x180; Legatura più tarda, marocchino rosso marezzato, due cornici in oro ai piatti, fleurons agli angoli di quella interna a triplo filetto, decorazione floreale su quella esterna, ricca decorazione in oro sul dorso a sei comparti, titolo in oro sul comparto in marocchino, tagli superiore e inferiore in oro, altro taglio colorato con raffigurazione di un ponte di Parigi. Pp. 12 nn., compresi Occhietto e Frontespizio, 275, 1]. Vignetta incisa in rame al Frontespizio, Iniziali e Testatina decorate in xilografia. Ex libris araldico incollato al contropiatto “Keane Fitzgerald E Coll: Reg: Oxon.”; firma di appartenenza al Frontespizio “Jacobi Joye”. Ottimo stato di conservazione.
Prima edizione. Esemplare eccezionale con una splendida veduta di un ponte di Parigi a cinque campate sul taglio verticale, dipinta molto probabilmente all’epoca della lussuosa legatura della fine del XVII secolo. In primo piano alcune barche sulla Senna, dietro il ponte è delineata una veduta generale della città e s’intravvedono cupole e campanili. Prestigiosa anche la provenienza: al contropiatto l’ex libris araldico di Keane Fitzgerald, di Oxford, morto intorno alla metà del XVIII secolo; al frontespizio la firma di Jacob Joye, un raffinato collezionista di libri antichi. In quest’opera, il letterato gesuita narra la vita edificante del barone Gaston-Jean-Baptiste de Renty, un “gentilhomme d'affaires” che fu una della più eminenti figure della scuola francese di spiritualità del XVII secolo. First edition. Exceptional specimen with a magnificent view of a bridge in Paris on the vertical edge, probably painted at the time of the luxurious binding of the late seventeenth century. In the foreground some boats on the Seine, behind the bridge is shown a general view of the city.Prestigious provenance: at the inside cover the heraldic Bookplate of Keane Fitzgerald, of Oxford, died in the mid-eighteenth century; at the title page is present the signature of Jacob Joye, an important collector of antique books. In this work, the Jesuit scholar narrates the life of Baron Jean-Baptiste-Gaston de Renty, a "gentilhomme d'affaires" which was one of the most eminent figures of the French school of spirituality of the XVII century.For the Bookplate, cfr.
