AN AMERICAN CIVIL WAR PERIOD CAVALRY TROOPER'S SWORD, 89cm clean blade by Charles Hammond, regulation brass hilt, one side bar professionally removed, ribbed leather grip, contained in its steel scabbard. Charles Hammond, a tool manufacturer in Philadelphia, had government contracts for 5000 axes and 5000 hatchets but appears to have also made a small number of swords.
