Oil on board with thick, bold brush strokes of this famous rock formation in Garden of the Gods, Colorado Springs, size 18 in. x 24 in. sight, 23 in. x 29 in. framed, signed lower right, labeled in pencil verso, circa 1930’s, very good condition.Lloyd Albright was know as a painter, architect and wood carver. Born in Cleborne, Texas in 1896, he spent most of his life living in Dalhart, Texas. As an artist, he was primarily self-taught. In 1922 he took classes at the Chicago Academy of Fine Art, and in the early 1930’s he studied with Buck Dunton and Emil Bisttram in Taos, New Mexico. Much of his paintings are of views of New Mexico, Colorado and West Texas mountain landscapes, mission scenes and village life. His Architectural interest focused on adobe structures. His Dalhart studio was a two-level adobe which he decorated with wood carvings. He died in Minnesota undergoing medical treatment.
