John Adams' Etched Crystal Goblet--Splendid
John Adams' crystal stemmed tulip goblet, ca. 1800, ornately etched with foliate designs. Absolutely stunning, and with impeccable provenance from John Herzog, former principal of R.M. Smythe & Co. Auctions (New York, New York.). This piece has been carefully stored and protected with no signs of wear, chips, or cracks. 3" diameter x 6" height. It has been attributed to having been made by Webb and used by Adams at The White House, but of course this is only oral tradition. In an article by Mark Chervenka "The name Webb has been associated with English glass since the 18th century. It's probably as well known among Americans as with English collectors...The best known branch of the family begins with John Webb and the White House Glass Works." We do not know which branch of the family this originates from but since John's son Thomas began in 1829, it could be another branch.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
