Description
Nice collection of rail books pertaining to the central area of California. Included in the lot are "The Visalia Electric Railroad" by Phillip Kauke. From its beginnings in 1904 until abandonment of most trackage in 1992, the Visalia Electric Railroad had a fascinating history. Built as an electric line which pioneered 15-cycle alternating current in the United States, it operated orange interurban cars along its 30-mile route until 1924.; Next, "Valley Division Vignettes" by J.L. Krieger & C.S. Icanberry, next "Central California Traction" by David Stanley & Jeffery Moreau. Central California Traction had its origins in 1902 as a streetcar service in Stockton, CA. Conceived by Howard H. Griffiths to compete against Stockton's venerable, narrow-gauge Stockton Electric RR, Griffiths' vision became reality in 1905 with the incorporation of the Central California Traction Co. Hard bound books have dust jackets intact. There are also softcover books in set. Please see photos for more detail and condition.
