Description
Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, Moche II Phase – Ca 300 AD. Fine quality early Moche portrait vessel depicting an actual member of the tribe. Stirrup vessels were used like canteens and tied to the waist via the characteristic stirrup. Vessel decorated shows a youthful male with turbaned head dress, wide almond-shaped eyes and thin mouth. Vessels such as this have been found tracking the individual throughout their life from early youth to senior citizenship. 9"H.
