Description:

[10] leaves. Poems by Walt Whitman and Rumi (translated by Zahra Partovi). Drawn images are silkscreen-printed on aluminum and individually painted by Donald Glaister. The pages are attached to cloth tape and sewn onto the spine. 35.6x30.7 cm (14x12"), black morocco spine with sanded aluminum insets on front and back covers. The typography and letterpress printing on aluminum and polyester sheets was done from photopolymer plates by Jessica Spring at Springtide Press in Tacoma, WA. Issued in a black cloth-covered, drop-spine box with paper spine label. No. 1 of an edition of ten numbered copies from a total edition of 15; two of which are deluxe copies lettered A and B; three of which are hors de commerce copies - AP1, AP2 and AP3.

Signed by Donald Glaister at colophon with the inscription "for Deke". A spectacular artist's book with pages of laminated aluminum and boards. On some pages the boards are cut away in geometrical patterns to reveal the metal underneath. Leaves of polyester film, smaller than the size of the metal and board pages, have the Whitman text letterpress printed. Glaister's meditations on the "beyond", dedicated to Don Moore, the late brother of Glaister's wife, Suzanne Moore. Provenance: Deke and Joanne Sonnischen.

Condition
Hints of sunning and soiling to cloth of drop-back box; a few leaves which had been mounted together have come unglued or are starting, a seemingly simple repair; near fine.
