Publisher's light grey cloth, stamped in black, soiling in spine and spine ends and along bottom front board edge; in publisher's light blue slip case, worn and faded.

Rosamond Bernier (1916-2016) was a journalist and lecturer for the Parisian magazine L'oeil, and often gave presentations on art history at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She and her husband, fellow art critic John Russell (1919-2008) were living in New York at the time when Ernst made this inscription, where she often interviewed famous artists of the day at her lectures.
