North America, Native American, ca. 17th to 18th century CE. A fabulous pair of Native American necklaces, each featuring dozens of opaque glass trade beads strung on a modern strand to be wearable. The longest of the 2 is comprised of vibrant cobalt beads, all presenting ellipsoid forms. Alternatively, the other necklace displays barrel beads in a shade of black. Beads like these were originally traded by the Russians to the indigenous peoples of Alaska in exchange for coveted objects like sea otter pelts. These beads were a desirable form of currency, similar to wampum used in the far north. A stunning pair of Native American fashion - perfect for any occasion!
