Pre-Columbian, Southern Peru, Inca Empire, ca. 1400 to 1533 CE. A cast-copper axe head presenting a thick rectangular body and a crescent-shaped blade with projecting lateral points. The rectangular neck features two circular openings through the center, likely for hafting this axe head onto a pole or handle. A pretty green patina covers the surface. An axe head like this was perhaps created for ceremonial or ritualistic purposes. Size: 4.875" L x 3.25" H (12.4 cm x 8.3 cm); 5" H (12.7 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany, collected from 1950 to1960s
