Description
**Originally Listed At $2000**

Ancient Greece, Archaic Period, ca. 6th century BCE. A beautiful vessel known as an alabastron, of an elongated teardrop form, hand-carved from honey-yellow alabaster, with a rounded base, a tapering cylindrical body with a sloping shoulder, a narrow neck, and a wide discoid rim, all atop an integral tiered plinth with a trio of tab-shaped feet. Vessels like this were commissioned by aristocratic Greek women in order to use as a storage container for scented oils or perfumes during bathing. Size: 2" W x 8.7" H (5.1 cm x 22.1 cm); 9" H (22.9 cm) on included custom stand.

Repaired from multiple large pieces with some resurfacing and light adhesive residue along break lines. Small chips to feet, plinth, body, and rim, with light encrustations. Light earthen deposits throughout. Old inventory sticker on side of body.
