Description
Large and near-choice ancient sculpture of a demon god, from Ecuador, ca. 200 to 500 AD. Mold-made terracotta pottery standing figure, probably representing a shaman in costume. He wears a demon mask, large elaborate headdress and wears a long tail, body covered in heavy armor. Remains of original green and yellow pigment throughout. 8"H, custom marble mount included. A large and very fine example!

PROVENANCE: Ex- Wilcox collection, acquired at Skinner's Auctioneers, Boston, MA.

Intact/near-choice condition, save missing thumb on left hand, with liberal rooting marked surface on reverse.
