George Gardner Symons, The Edge of Town, Oil on Board, (Illinois/New Jersey, 1861-1930), signed lower left, depicting snow covered houses along a road, in a giltwood frame. Frame Size: 13 1/2 in. x 15 1/2 in.George Gardner Symons was an American painter noted for his plein-air landscapes that combined inspiration from impressionism and realism. He received his art education at the Chicago Art Institute. Symons was a member of the National Academy of Design, the National Arts Club, the Institute of Arts and Letters, Salmagundi Club, the Royal Society of British Artists, and the Union Internationale des Beaux Arts et des Lettres. His paintings can be found in the collections of the Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Science, the Fleischer Museum in Arizona, and the Art Institute of Chicago, among others.
