Description
Buddy Holly and the Crickets: Rare Matters Ballroom poster, 1958
A three-color calendar concert poster for Matters Ballroom in Decorah, Iowa, July 2 - July 29, 1958, including an appearance by Buddy Holly and the Crickets on July 9, 1958.
22 x 14 in.
Footnotes:
1958 was a pivotal year for Buddy Holly. The near-constant tour schedule took him and the Crickets on package tours around the US, eastern Canada, Australia and Great Britain. This poster is from a brief run of headlining dates the group played in the summer of 1958. Matters (pronounced Mah-durs) Ballroom was like many of the hundreds of ballrooms that dotted the American Midwest and featured mostly regional talent and the occasional national act. To our knowledge, this poster has never appeared at auction before.
