Description
19th Century Vienna Porcelain Plaque, Spoils of the Battle of Teutoburg Forest. The rectangular plaque painted in polychrome enamels with the conquering Teutons riding by villagers in supplicant poses. In carved giltwood and gesso frame. Signed to front, lower right "M. Morbach." The reverse impressed 383, and incised "Austria," with the word outlined in pen. In graphite," Eissug of Germanicus." Various other stickers and markings. Vienna, Austria. Circa 1880. {Approximate dimensions: 6 7/8" H. x 9 3/8" W. Frame: 13 1/2" H. x 15 1/2" W. x 2 1/4" D.}. Condition: Very good condition. One black enamel spot 1/4" down and 2 1/4" from right hand, upper edge.
