Description
Paragon China Ltd. (English, 1920-1991), circa 1930. Sixty-eight piece bone china partial dinner service, pattern 8902, each piece having a cobalt scalloped rim with gilt accents, and alternating reserves with hand-painted polychrome florals, centering on a similar central roundel, comprising; twelve dinner plates (approx. dia. 10.5"), eleven salad plates (approx. dia. 8.25"), ten cream soup bowls (approx. w. 7"), eleven cream soup underplates (approx. dia. 6.75", twelve tea cups (approx. w. 5", eleven tea cup saucers (approx. dia. 5.75"), and one compote (approx. h. 5"). All with various artist signatures and marked to the back. Note: Queen Mary of Teck (British, 1867-1953) was consort to King George V of Great Britain. This service is a reproduction of one designed for her when she visited the factory (then Star) in 1913. In 1937 she issued a royal warrant to Paragon China Ltd.
Condition
Repair to stem on compote; some surface staining, accretions to underside of pieces; no apparent chips, cracks.
