Description
YVONNE TWINING (AMERICAN, 1907-2004) WINTER LANDSCAPE, oil on canvas, possibly a scene in the Berkshires of Massachusetts, featuring a horse-drawn sleigh, farmhouse, barn, and mountains in the distance, signed and dated lower right. Housed in a period, possibly original, gilt frame with molded-composition ornament. Dated 1933. 15 1/2" x 19 1/2" sight, 21" x 25" OA.
Provenance: Property from a Shenandoah Valley private collection.
Catalogue Note: Born in New York City, Yvonne Twining studied with Katherine Almond Hulbert, Luigi Luccioni, Paul Cadmus, and Charles Hawthorne over her lifetime. In the early 1940's she married Irving Humber, and the two moved to Seattle, Washington, where Twinning's work became much more realist in style, often focusing on cityscapes or industrial scenes. The present winter landscape is a fine early example of the artist's work, likely executed while she was in Massachusetts.
