WILLIAM WILLOUGHBY (BRITISH, ACTIVE SECOND QUARTER 19TH CENTURY) VIEW OF BOSTON, LINCOLNSHIRE, oil on canvas, a fine panoramic scene taken from the marketplace featuring the iconic "Boston Stump" church tower and multiple figures on the street undertaking their affairs, signed lower right and inscribed, in the artist's hand, verso "Boston Church and Market Place in 1845". Housed in a period molded giltwood frame. Dated 1845. 15 1/2" x 23 1/2" sight, 20" x 28" OA.
Catalogue Note: A nearly identical view by Willoughby, similarly inscribed, sold at Sotheby's, (2/23/1989, lot 65) for $35,000. "Boston Stump" is the colloquial expression for the Saint Botolph's Church tower in the town of Boston, Lincolnshire.

Condition
Very good overall visual condition with minor areas of discoloration to sky, minute puncture near the top of tower. Frame with very minor wear.
