John Elliot Jenkins was born in Onaga, Kansas in 1868. He was a painter who specialized in landscapes. Jenkins studied at the Academie Julian in Paris in 1888 with Benjamin Constant and Jules Lefebvre. He also studied with Claude Monet, Courtois, and Dagran-Bouvert. Later in life his was head of the art department at Friends University, in Wichita Kansas. He moved frequently, and throughout his life spent time in Amarillo, Austin, and Houston, Texas as well as Tulsa, Oklahoma, Springfield, Missouri, and Topeka and Wichita, Kansas. He died in Eastland County, Texas, 1937.
