Description
Da zdravstvuyet Kommunistichesky Internatsional [Long Live the Communist International], a bilingual poster with inscription in Russian and French. Produced at VKHUTEMAS Graphics and Poligraphy School, 1921, 71 x 53 cm.
VKHUTEMAS was deservedly considered the center of the Soviet avant-garde movement, but enthusiasm for the new art was not shared by every professor or student. This diversity is largely reflected in the widely varied style of printed production bearing the VKHUTEMAS Poligraphy school imprint. This allegorical-style poster was produced on the occasion of the 1921 Comintern Congress in Moscow, an event that left Moscow covered by posters and triggered many other visual propaganda projects. For some additional examples of VKHUTEMAS posters of the period, see, e. g., The Bolshevik Poster.
