The man is wearing cosmetic makeup as part of his persona. He strikes a dramatic pose with his deliberate nonchalance. His overpainted lips emphasize the point that this is a performer. Daguerreotypes that have been etched in the plate are rare and desirable. This has "Silvester" etched just to the right of 6:00 at the bottom. Full case.
